Dear Jung,

Thank you for conveying to me Resolution 32: Accommodating Muslim Religious Holidays. Cornell always has been very proud of its diverse student body, and we grow increasingly diverse each year. This diversity has many benefits, and we strive to support each student and community in providing a robust educational experience.

The university faculty do follow a policy on religious holiday observance, and Dean Van Loan has sent a reminder to faculty about religious observation. I understand he also is interested in having more discussions to improve this policy and the accommodation process. I encourage interested students to connect with Dean Van Loan and Reverend Dan McMullin, associate dean for spirituality and meaning making.

As was the case for preliminary examinations, Cornell expects that students discuss their religious observances with their faculty to plan for accommodations around exam dates. This note is included on the spring final exam page of the University Registrar website.

In addition to the takeout containers that already are provided at most eateries, Cornell Dining often makes special accommodations for community members observing Ramadan, and currently are discussing options for this year. As Ramadan nears and their discussions conclude, they will communicate these accommodations to meal plan holders.

Thank you for your recommendations.

Sincerely,

Martha Pollack
