Dear Anuli,

Thank you for conveying to me SA Resolution #59: Amendments to Appendix B of the Student Assembly Charter.

Along with my colleagues in Student and Campus Life, including Marla Love, Dean of Students, and Jenny Loeffelman, Assistant Vice President for Student and Campus Life, I have reviewed this document. After thorough review and consideration, I accept the proposed changes included in this resolution.

Additionally, I ask the SA leadership to coordinate with Marla Love, Dean of Students, whom I appoint as my representative, to set up a time this fall for a review of the Byline procedures and guidelines, in accordance with the SA Charter mandate on line 559. I ask that this review take place in the fall semester of 2022, with an update provided to me before the last day of classes.

As a part of that review, I ask that you address the following:

1.       In Section 4, some organizations have been given additional guidelines while others have not. It is not clear to me why some byline organizations have specific requirements in Appendix B while others do not.  Please provide the rationale and some details on the process for these amendments.
2.       Please update office and title changes for consistency.
3.       I encourage the Assembly to communicate numbers more uniformly, rather than using percentages of budgets in some places and dollar amounts in others.
4.       In line 572 of the resolution, “to Campus Activities” should be “of Campus Activities” and in line 575, “to Student Activities” should be “of Campus Activities.”
5.       I encourage the Assembly to work with the Director of Campus Activities and appropriate staff to help communicate, educate, and train new student organizational leaders on the changed policies and processes for successful implementation.

I appreciate the Student Assembly’s efforts to be sure that the SAF funds are being spent wisely, and I look forward to learning the outcomes of the Byline process review.

Sincerely,
