Notes
Dear Duncan,

Thank you for conveying to me Resolution 2: UA R2: Requesting that the University Provide Funds for an MD Gynecologist at Cornell Health.

Cornell Health’s medical services are staffed by primary care clinicians, trained in the care of the whole person, including gynecologic concerns, preventive care and screening, and some minimally invasive clinical procedures such as IUD insertion.

The primary care clinicians within Cornell Health have a combined 50 years of experience in gynecology services, and it is within their scope of care to diagnose and treat the most common gynecological issues in the student population, including the majority of pelvic pain conditions. Multidisciplinary care is essential and effective in most cases, and the primary care providers at Cornell Health are well positioned to offer and coordinate holistic care for these conditions.

When advanced specialty care or surgical intervention is needed, the primary care clinicians will refer students to one of several gynecology providers in the Ithaca community who are well equipped to manage most conditions associated with chronic pelvic pain in this population. Based on the advanced nature of those health concerns, it is best for those patients to be seen and treated at the specialist’s office. All local providers which Cornell Health refers students to participate in the Student Health Plan (SHP).

Sincerely,

Martha E. Pollack
