Dear Ekarina,

Thank you for submitting GPSA Resolution 5, “On the Forthcoming Campus Climate Task Force.” I appreciate the work of the GPSA, and the Diversity and International Students Committee in particular, to create a more equitable, inclusive and welcoming environment here at Cornell.

As we move forward from the painful events of last month, I am determined to take concrete steps to change the campus culture with respect to injustice, racism and bigotry. The presidential task force is an important element of this effort, one that will require thoughtful participation by representatives of groups from across campus. GPSA’s perspectives will be welcomed in the work of this task force, and I will share the recommendations contained in Resolution 5 with the faculty, student and staff members involved in planning this initiative.

I look forward to working with the task force, the GPSA and others from our campus community to ensure that every member of our community feels welcome and safe.
