Notes
Dear Valeria,

Thank you for conveying to me SA Resolution #16: Condemning Greek Life. As noted in my response to SA Resolution #12, a number of educational harm-reduction strategies for Greek Life are already being considered. Strategic work to improve the fraternity community is also underway.

While the Cornell Interfraternity Counsel (IFC) has authority over their own internal policies, all student organizations, including social fraternities and sororities, must adhere to community standards articulated in the Student Code of Conduct. The Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards (OSCCS) is responsible for administering the Code’s student conduct process, including addressing behavioral concerns by fraternities. Additionally, reports of sexual misconduct by individual students are resolved consistent with Cornell’s Policy 6.4 and related procedures.

The IFC ban on all social events has remained in effect since November 7th, and active and ongoing investigations continue within the Office of Institutional Equity and Title IX, the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, and local law enforcement. OSCCS also has the authority to place interim measures involving student organizations while investigating these cases.

Individuals with information about these allegations are encouraged to submit a report to any of the following entities:

Incidents occurring in Ithaca can also be reported to the Ithaca Police Department at (607) 273-7757.

Thank you to the Student Assembly for their advocacy and support of their fellow students. Ensuring a safe, inclusive community for all our students is critical, and I appreciate your partnership in this work.

Sincerely,

Martha E. Pollack
