Dear President Pollack,

It is my pleasure to convey to you University Assembly Resolution #15, "Opposing the Merger of the College of Human Ecology and the ILR School." This resolution is sponsored by Joseph Anderson. The resolution can be found here: https://assembly.cornell.edu/resolutions/ua-r15-ua-r15-opposing-merger-college-human-ecology-and-ilr-school

The resolution states the University Assembly's opposition to merging the College of Human Ecology and the ILR School. Because such a merger would naturally implicate students, faculty, and staff, the University Assembly has a clear interest in weighing in on this issue.

The resolution goes on to recommend that the Provost withdraw the idea from further consideration. Naturally, the Assembly fully agrees that the best way to have proceeded after the Committee on Organizational Structures in the Social Sciences had released its report was for the community to consider all of the proposed ideas, with merging ILR and HumEc being among them. Afer doing that, we believe that at this point, it makes sense to narrow our focus and deliberate constructively regarding the most realistic and least harmful proposals, that is, the proposals that do not involve merging the colleges. This is why the Assembly is asking that the idea to merge the schools be withdrawn from further consideration at this time.

In the end, I believe that the Assembly is confident that you and the Provost will make a well thought out, carefully considered decision that you believe to be in the long-term best interest of Cornell, which we all care about very much. Thank you for your commitment to improving the Cornell experience and to maintaining Cornell's academic strengths.

Best,

Gabe
